Bats and Crops Horse Riding Whips

General Information

Whips bats and crops are all used as aids to assist us in the training of our horses. They come in varying lengths for tasks such as lunging and carriage driving. These examples would be long whips and may even have as much as a 6 to 8 foot drop that is not for making cracking sounds but to aid in getting the horse to move forward. The trick here is to form a triangle between yourself the lounge line and the lunge whip. The lounge whip behind the horse so as to induce him to continue to move forward. the other extreme is the international jump bat which is only 18 inches long and is carried by hunter riders while on the horse. Longer whips that are used in riding are generally used to aid in gaining forward motion and in keeping the horses hocks under himself which will produce impulsion.
