The German painter Jan Kunster was born in Bonn, Germany in 1951. He started painting at a very young age, starting with portraits of people and then moving on to animals. Soon he realized his main interest was portraits of horses and specifically the horse in motion. Jan used watercolors to stand out from the conventional paintings of horses. These prints are a realistic, dynamic representation of his water-color technique which gives them a light, effortless quality. The rider in all his paintings is only faintly sketched, in order not to distract the viewer from the main subject, the horse in motion.
