A horse halter is a piece of tack used to guide, train, or tie up an animal. Halters fit over the pole behind the ears and across or around the animal's nose so, when a handler pulls on the muzzle end of the halter, the animal's head turns toward the handler. Being in control of the horses head is very important. Halters can be made of leather, nylon, polypropylene and rope. Leather halters or nylon halters with leather crowns are considered to be the safest because they will break if a horse gets hung up. Of course if you do not want a halter to break a good quality nylon halter cannot be beat.
